Benchmarking Survey Compiles Critical “Peer Group” Data for Wine Industry
Industry professionals throughout California, Oregon and Washington have until Friday, June 15th to participate in the 2012 Wine Industry Financial Benchmarking Survey conducted by Moss Adams LLP, one of the leading wine industry accounting firms in the western U.S.
Moss Adams LLP is collecting fiscal data from 2009 – 2011 through a free, confidential online survey that addresses price points, geography, business models, distribution channels, varietal focus and other operational issues critical to the long-term outlook for the wine industry.
According to Senior Business Consultant Rick Boland, the survey is structured to provide comparative data from individual businesses across the industry, particularly within specific peer groups using a “common sizing” application.
“The information is used as a measuring tool to see how you stack up against other companies and can be applied no matter what size you are,” Boland says. “It provides insight into alternative business models and best practices, allowing you to assess the relative profitability of those models and see how it might apply to or benefit you.”
Boland says the benchmarking report that comes from the survey is an invaluable tool for an industry that only recently began to engage in more peer group comparisons and studies.
He says those data points will give wine trade professionals essential information about both current and long-term strategies and operating trends critical to overall industry success.
Participating wineries or vineyards that fill out the survey will be given a complimentary copy of the final report. Others may purchase a copy for $495. Moss Adams LLP will be making a presentation about the survey results at the upcoming Wine Industry Financial Symposium in September.
Boland encourages widespread participation in the survey, pointing out that the larger the sample the better and more relevant the data will be. Questions may be
