Incentive Software Components for Industrial Automation Applications
27 July, 2017

IncentiveTM is a flexible family of software building blocks enabling comprehensive plant automation strategies. Major system components include:

• IncentivePLC – a multitasking control runtime system executing the powerful QuickBuilder programming environment

• IncentiveECAT – a high-performance EtherCAT master controller for direct control of EtherCAT devices from standard PC hardware.

• IncentiveAPI – a DLL offering a high-level control API for C#, C++ or VB.Net code.

Incentive provides users a complete solution for highperformance PC-based control of automated industrial processes, for standalone equipment or plant-wide control architectures. Incentive has a real-time operating system (RTOS) that enables simultaneous operation of Windows 10 (or Windows 7) and one or more independent realtime processes. The system combines the responsiveness required of high-speed motion applications and the flexibility of a full-featured operating system to run vision systems, HMIs, data tracking and processing applications, and other high-level programs. In applications requiring data interchange with peer or higher-level systems, Incentive allows for the implementation of local or remote data aggregation, supporting interfaces to remote database applications, network security provisions, and other necessary functions.

The addition of IncentivePLC to the system provides the functionality of a programmable automation controller without requiring additional dedicated hardware. Programmed using the QuickBuilder Programming Environment, running locally or remotely, IncentivePLC can execute the same programs as CTC’s series 5300 controllers. This flexibility lets you choose among hardware platform options for each application, without having to adapt to different development environments. Such a configuration also supports the use of external Modbus/TCP connected devices, increasing the range of supported hardware in a truly open architecture. Incentive represents a new way to approach and execute automation strategies, using your choice of technologies to create a system optimized for your project.

Food Contact Suction Cups
Low vacuum levels for delicate food products

Piab introduces a new series of food contact suction cups suitable for direct picking of everything from chocolate pralines to fish sticks. Designed to meet the most stringent hygiene standards, Piab's 13 food contact cups have no pockets in which dust or dirt can collect, and are made of food contact materials that comply with FDA and EU 1935 regulations. Cups and fittings also comply with metal detectors available on the market and their blue color suits the visual inspection systems used in the food industry.

Only a low vacuum level is needed to collapse the bellows on the cups. This is important as a high vacuum can compromise or even completely ruin delicate food products. The low vacuum level is also ideal for side channel blowers

Cognex logoSurfaceView Technology

Solving difficult applications by differentiating shape from shading

SurfaceView, is an algorithm which highlights surface features regardless of whether they are engraved, etched, embossed, dented, punctured, stamped, or raised. Once contrast is created in the image, Cognex's industry leading vision tools (OCRMax, PatMax RedLine, Blobs, InspectEdge, etc.) can easily inspect the part.

SurfaceVIew utilizes a 4-segment quadrant controlled light and a Cognex IS8000 or IS5705 Series camera.  It uses reflections and shadows from the different angled lights to determine the surface structure.  The Cognex algorithm combines images from different light sources to create the resulting image.

Dorner FlexMove Technology
Unique case handling application highlights

Dorner recently worked with a customer who needed to take a case and flip it 180° within a short distance.  The case was slightly bulky at about 1' x 1' x 10".  The customer wanted a way to positively control the product as it rotated.

Dorner tackled the challenge using a 180mm wide SmartFlex® with FlexMove Technology. The platforms flexibility in the frame of the conveyor enabled it to be twisted over a distance.  Two of these conveyors were used per 90° of rotation.

One conveyor started as the bottom conveying surface and gradually twisted perpendicular to the new conveying surface.  The other conveyor started perpendicular and gradually twisted to become the bottom conveying surface.
IAI LogoHigh-speed Motorized Vertical Grippers
Multi-positioning with adjustable gripping force

IAI's Vertical grippers are available in two types, including the slider type that comes with a guide to achieve excellent rigidity, and the lever type whose levers open by 180 degrees for easy gripping of the work part.

Up to 512 positioning points supported via servo control, and the force with which to grip the work part is adjustable. This makes it possible to adjust the finger opening/closing width and grip easy-to-deform work parts.

Numatics Logo503 Zoned Safety Manifold
Valve manifold series with zoned safety capabilities

Asco's Numatics 503 series valve manifold is designed to help the design engineer satisfy the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and comply with ISO 13849-1 while eliminating the components and complexity found in discrete safety circuits.

The zoned safety concept is an integrated approach to machine safety and control that greatly simplifies the design of a redundant pneumatic safety circuit with a manifold system. The manifold can create up to three independent electro-pneumatic safety zones, while also allowing independent non-safe sections to co-exist within one manifold assembly. The manifold can be configured to shut down air and power only to the group of valves that controls the machine's motion in the operator's vicinity.

SmartReflect: more added value for the beverage industry
05 November, 2014

Baumer also implemented the successful SmartReflect technology in their next-generation sensors 0300 and 0500 to detect all types of beverage packaging. This combination ensures measurable added value by reduced operating costs and maximum process reliability.

Baumer's SmartReflect is the first light barrier that works without a reflector. The light beam is closed via a random part of the machine. The sensor switches when an object is physically interrupting the light beam. Forgoing a reflector eliminates effort and costs entailed by reflector installation, commissioning, adjustment and cleaning which would otherwise be necessary. The sensor therefore is perfectly suited for applications in the filling and packaging process.

Designed to decode challenging 2D Direct Part Mark codes

DataMan 8050X handheld barcode readers with 2DMax+ is designed to decode challenging 2D Direct Part Mark codes with near/far integrated LED illumination.

Though Data Matrix codes have built-in error correction, "no-reads" can still occur when codes are incomplete. 2DMax+ barcode software can read Data Matrix codes even when critical elements of the codes are missing. 2DMax+ can also locate and decode Data Matrix codes that are overexposed or underexposed, without requiring multiple retries. This improves throughput, speed and overall reliability.

Piab logoImproved Design on Bag Lip for piGrip Suction Cups

Better gripping performance ensures higher productivity

Piab introduces the next generation of piGRIP® bag lips, known as "BGI". These lips include an internal retainer piece as well as three additional diameter sizes. The bag lips are ideal for handling different types of bag materials, especially hard-to-handle thin bag material, such as plastic film. The six diameter sizes now at 25, 34, 41, 48, 63 & 80 mm provides a larger range of sizes for choosing the exact cup for the handling application.

The range of diameter sizes now allows for very small and/or oblong narrow flexible packages (fast-food ketchup packs) to be handled by the smallest 25 mm size. The largest size, 80 mm, addresses the need for handling heavy bags or sacks such as animal feed sacks.

  • How would someone implement a 3-D sensor or camera?
  • How would that help machine operation?
  • What would be the application and benefit of using 3-D cameras to sort and grade key dimensions of parts?

To get answers to these questions and more, please join us  for our seminar that will focus on 3D technology and solutions.

In our 3-dimensional world, we view every object with a set of dimensions (length, width and height) which help us assess general property about the object. This physical information helps us determine how we can package, stack, assemble and sort objects effectively and efficiently.

During this half-day seminar, we will have two experts to speak on how 3-D cameras and sensors can benefit us in a production environment that has needs to package, stack, assemble and sort and verify.

Clippard SCPV Stepper Controlled Proportional Valves
06 May, 2014

SCPV High Flow Proportional Valves

SCPV ValvesAnywhere there is a needle valve that is controlling the flow of gas, can now be remotely located, automated, monitored and automatically adjusted to meet whatever demand you have in your application.

The SCPV incorporates the industry’s most robust and powerful stepper powered linear actuator.  This actuator is used to control Clippard’s proven needle valve technology.   Imagine the control of a needle valve with an ultrafine thread.  It is smooth, proportional, accurate, and stays in the position you leave it. Now, couple that with a stepper motor that gives you precision, speed, and is ultimately automated with any bipolar chopper drive you wish to use.
