With harvest winding down, now is the time to start thinking about post-harvest cleaning for both your winery and your crush equipment. A proper program to maintain, clean, and sanitize harvest equipment before storing it for the year is critical to its long-term reliability. Additionally, as we still face uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic, the CDC has stated that “cleaning of visibly dirty surfaces followed by disinfection is a best practice measure for the prevention of COVID-19 and other viral respiratory illnesses in community settings.”
ATPGroup can help, providing solutions designed specifically for the wine industry. Our cleaning and sanitation experts have designed the industry’s only winery-specific, FSMA-compliant cleaning and sanitation program. They work in partnership with our equipment specialists to offer guidance on the easiest, safest and most cost-effective ways to “deep clean” your winery and equipment post-harvest while making safety paramount. Helpful tips:
- Any product classified as a “sanitizer” or “disinfectant” will be effective in mitigating risk.
- The difference between “sanitizers” and “disinfectants” is concentration: all of ATPGroup’s sanitizers are also considered disinfectants at appropriate concentration levels and can be used as such.
- “Sanitizers” are EPA-registered and food-grade, and therefore used in wine, juice, and beer production facilities.
- Quaternary-ammonium-based, chorine-based, and alcohol-based sanitizers are all capable of killing influenza viruses.
- The CDC recommends using hand sanitizers when soap and water are not available; ATPGroup offers a full range of appropriate hand sanitizers.
