Give Your Winery Guests Some Fun Facts About Wine

Usually, when consumers come to visit the winery, we give them lots of facts on wine and winemaking. I have also found that presenting your guests with some wine or grape trivia that they can take home and share with their friends is a great way to help them remember their visit and how much they enjoyed the wine.

When your guests have fun and learn something they are more likely to remember how much they enjoyed their visit to your winery. Plus, most of your will customers love to pass along the information contained in this blog to their friends and others they know. They will also be most likely to pass along the name of the winery they were at when they got this information.

Additionally, you will be giving them information that they are not getting at other wineries, so you are more likely to stand out in the crowd of wineries your customers visited that day.

Have a handout that your guests can take with them so they have the information at hand. Be sure to put the information on your letterhead so they remember where it came from.

Here is some wine trivia that you can use in your tasting room or at tastings:

An acre of land planted to grapes yields:

  • Five (5) tons of grapes which are equal to 10,000 pounds
  • 13.51 barrels of wine at 7,552 ounces each
  • 797 gallons of wine at 128 oz each
  • 3,598 bottles of wine at 25.6 oz each
  • 15,940 glasses of wine at 6.4 oz each

One barrel of wine contains:

  • 740 lbs of grapes
  • 59 gallons of wine
  • 24.6 cases of wine
  • 295 bottles of wine
  • 1,180 glasses of wine (which should keep a part going for a while).

Next week: How much wine one case of wine contains and how much wine one bottle of wine contains.

A tip of the glass from me to you!

 Other Seminars & Training

Staff and management training should be as integral a part of the operation of a successful winery as using the very best grapes and producing top notch wines. Yet, despite its iymportance, it is the component of business operations that is most easily and most often ignored. In fact, it is frequently not recognized as a component of successful business operations at all.

E (as she is known) presents seminars and workshops on a variety of marketing and sales subjects to wineries and winery associations throughout North America. She is a featured speaker at Wineries Unlimited and presents regularly at state and province conferences working across the US and Canada.

In Short was started as a direct marketing company in 1994 and added workshops and seminars to the mix in 1997.  Elizabeth's dynamic and humorous speaking style has made her a popular and busy speaker both in and out of the wine industry.
