How many times have guests who visit your winery told you that you have a great job, or that they wish they had your job? I am sure that it has been more than once.
Naturally, you agree with your guests that you do have a fabulous job. You may want to continue with the fact that what makes your job so much fun and so interesting is that you get to meet so many great people each day who come to the winery. Follow up by mentioning that, of course, it doesn’t hurt that you have such wonderful wines to offer to your guests and to have a small glass of it while you are putting everything away before you leave.
As with any job, there are positives and negatives. Though the negatives of working in a winery are not nearly as bad as they are in other jobs - okay, your feet hurt after a day working in the tasting room or hospitality center all day. Then again, your feet would probably hurt if you were cleaning out cowsheds and that would not be nearly as much fun. Plus, cows are not great conversationalists.
Remember that there are many people out there in the wide, wide world that think you have an amazing job. Of course, they picture you sipping wine all day. It is rare that they will picture you lugging cases of wine into the tasting room. Or dealing with a customer whose wine order did not arrive on time.
Overall, however, as hospitality staff, we do have great jobs. We have the advantage of every day being different and being able to meet new people every day. We get to relax and have a glass of wine after work, and we buy our wine at less than retail price.
It could be worse. So, enjoy your day and remind yourself of how many of your guests wish they had your job.
A tip of the glass from me to you!

Other Seminars & Training
Staff and management training should be as integral a part of the operation of a successful winery as using the very best grapes and producing top notch wines. Yet, despite its iymportance, it is the component of business operations that is most easily and most often ignored. In fact, it is frequently not recognized as a component of successful business operations at all.
E (as she is known) presents seminars and workshops on a variety of marketing and sales subjects to wineries and winery associations throughout North America. She is a featured speaker at Wineries Unlimited and presents regularly at state and province conferences working across the US and Canada.
In Short was started as a direct marketing company in 1994 and added workshops and seminars to the mix in 1997. Elizabeth's dynamic and humorous speaking style has made her a popular and busy speaker both in and out of the wine industry.
"In Short Direct Marketing is an essential business tool." - Maureen Hendrikson, Patit Creek Cellars
