Your customers are more likely to stay with you if you stay in contact with them and present them with information that is of benefit to them.
When first-time customers come to your winery, show them that you are pleased to see them and appreciate their business. Treat them with respect no matter how much or how little they know about wine, wine tasting, and/or your wines.
While making assumptions about people is commonplace when we first meet them, keep in mind that whatever your opinions are, you may be wrong. It is hard to tell at first what people are like, or the depth of their wine experience, or the amount of money they will spend on wine. We may judge our guests by how they look, how they dress, or whether they are knowledgeable about wine. Because visitors walk into the winery in well-worn jeans and a scruffy shirt, does not mean that they do not have money to buy your wine. It may be that the money they save on clothes is used to buy wine.
Customers who are new to drinking or buying wine may be intimidated when they visit wineries that they have not visited before. Satisfaction is increased when you consistently treat your guests well, regardless of whether they buy wine. Just because they do not buy the first time they come in does not mean they will not come back and buy the next time.
Remember that we all make assumptions based on how people are dressed, how much they may or may not know about wine, and whether their personalities jell with ours. Though if you can suspend opinions and look upon your customers as people with whom you can form a good relationship, your customers will feel welcome and are more likely to buy.

Other Seminars & Training
Staff and management training should be as integral a part of the operation of a successful winery as using the very best grapes and producing top notch wines. Yet, despite its iymportance, it is the component of business operations that is most easily and most often ignored. In fact, it is frequently not recognized as a component of successful business operations at all.
E (as she is known) presents seminars and workshops on a variety of marketing and sales subjects to wineries and winery associations throughout North America. She is a featured speaker at Wineries Unlimited and presents regularly at state and province conferences working across the US and Canada.
In Short was started as a direct marketing company in 1994 and added workshops and seminars to the mix in 1997. Elizabeth's dynamic and humorous speaking style has made her a popular and busy speaker both in and out of the wine industry.
"In Short Direct Marketing is an essential business tool." - Maureen Hendrikson, Patit Creek Cellars
