What is the easiest thing you can do to promote sales through the tasting room or over the phone? It is so easy that you are already doing it and if you are not, you should be.
This miracle of nature that promotes and increases sales is simple: it is greeting your customers with a smile. You may be saying: “Well I know that..” - but the question is are you doing it?
There is an old song by Frank Sinatra called “When You’re Smiling.” The first two lines of the song are:
“When you're smilin', when you're smilin'
The whole world smiles with you.”
There is a lot to be said for this.
When customers walk into your tasting room, most of them prefer to see someone greeting them with a smile. It makes them feel comfortable and welcome.
Practice your smile in the mirror. After all, you want your smile to look genuine. There is nothing that turns possible customers off faster than a fake smile. If you are not happy to see customers, the tasting room is probably not the place for you.
According to an article I found on the internet from “Very Well Mind,” smiling can do a lot of things for your health and your mood, such as:
SMILING:
And lastly, one that was not on the list, but I feel is the most important…
So, if you want to increase your sales, try smiling at your customers. Combine smiling with showing interest in your customers and focusing on your customers and see your sales go up.
Even better, it doesn’t cost anything. So, smile!

Other Seminars & Training
Staff and management training should be as integral a part of the operation of a successful winery as using the very best grapes and producing top notch wines. Yet, despite its iymportance, it is the component of business operations that is most easily and most often ignored. In fact, it is frequently not recognized as a component of successful business operations at all.
E (as she is known) presents seminars and workshops on a variety of marketing and sales subjects to wineries and winery associations throughout North America. She is a featured speaker at Wineries Unlimited and presents regularly at state and province conferences working across the US and Canada.
In Short was started as a direct marketing company in 1994 and added workshops and seminars to the mix in 1997. Elizabeth's dynamic and humorous speaking style has made her a popular and busy speaker both in and out of the wine industry.
"In Short Direct Marketing is an essential business tool." - Maureen Hendrikson, Patit Creek Cellars
