What are your winery’s plans for reaching your customers and potential customers in 2021? We have plenty of ways to contact and connect with customers these days, though deciding on how to reach each of the generations is a little more difficult.
It’s important that you know which generations are using which types of media so you may contact them in ways they prefer and will pay attention to.
Here is a breakdown of the different generations and the type of media they use and how they use it:
Boomers, Age 57 – 75, 71.6 million
Boomers are the biggest consumers of traditional media such as tv, radio, magazines, and newspapers. However, they are not stuck in the past, and also embrace new media avenues. For example, 90% of Boomers have a Facebook profile. Boomers also have adopted more technology in order to stay in touch with family members and reconnect with old friends.
Gen X, Age 41 – 56, 65.2 million
This generation also reads newspapers, magazines, listens to the radio, and watches tv. However, they have also embraced digital media and spend approximately 7 hours each week on Facebook, which is the highest amount of time for any generation.
Millennials (Gen Y), Age 25-40, 72.1 million
Millennials still watch TV, but also are Netflix is preferred over traditional cable providers. This generation is extremely comfortable with mobile devices, but 32% will still use a computer for purchases. They typically have multiple social media accounts.
Gen Z, Age 6-24, 68 million
Gen Z on average got their first mobile phone at age 10. A lot of them grew up playing with their parents’ mobile phones or tablets. They have always been in a hyper-connected world and the smartphone is their preferred method of communication. On average, they spend 3 hours a day on their mobile device.

Other Seminars & Training
Staff and management training should be as integral a part of the operation of a successful winery as using the very best grapes and producing top notch wines. Yet, despite its iymportance, it is the component of business operations that is most easily and most often ignored. In fact, it is frequently not recognized as a component of successful business operations at all.
E (as she is known) presents seminars and workshops on a variety of marketing and sales subjects to wineries and winery associations throughout North America. She is a featured speaker at Wineries Unlimited and presents regularly at state and province conferences working across the US and Canada.
In Short was started as a direct marketing company in 1994 and added workshops and seminars to the mix in 1997. Elizabeth's dynamic and humorous speaking style has made her a popular and busy speaker both in and out of the wine industry.
