With placements in more than 200 wineries across the United States, Airocide air purification equipment has proven effective in destroying Brett, mold and VOC’s in winery production spaces. Airocide equipment is completely safe, with no harmful byproducts omitted, and can be easily installed and upkept throughout the year.

A 2006 Wine East article discusses the advantages of Airocide placement in wineries. In this article, the writer specifically addresses Airocide in comparison to HEPA filters. The article states, “HEPA filters are good, but expensive, systems that help a well-prepared bottling line produce sanitary bottlings, but at the cost of more maintenance and the lack of volatile organic compound removal (unless there is also an added activated carbon filter in the HEPA system). If a winery with such a system does not maintain the filters on a regular schedule, the air will not be cleaned properly and the wine being bottled will be at risk for contamination” (Richard Carey, Wine East, Part 10: Monitoring Winery Sanitation). Although the article addresses a bottling lines in particular, the same rules apply when talking about HEPA filters in a cellar or barrel room. Airocide destroys a wider range of particles and is designed to accommodate the needs of commercial spaces better than HEPA filters.

What makes Airocide different than HEPA filters?

HEPA filters catch some airborne contaminants but do not catch them all. Airocide uses MERV filters to catch the smallest of airborne contaminants (including viruses and gasses) that HEPA filters cannot. Rather than destroying what contaminants they do catch, HEPA filters simply trap contaminants and require changing at a later date. This puts someone at risk of contact with these contaminants. Airocide, however, completely destroys anything that it captures.

The Wine East article mentions other positive effects of Airocide on winery spaces, including

  • Reduced odors in cellar
  • Fewer fruit flies in cellar/barrel room
  • VOC removal
  • Minimal maintenance cost
