For decades, checking on irrigation at Enterprise Vineyards meant physically going block by block to turn valves on and off by hand. Today, Phil Coturri — organic grower and founder of Enterprise Vineyards in Napa, California — manages that same work from wherever he is. "Having WiseConn automation is like a dream," Coturri says. "I used to manually turn on and off the valves. Now with automation, it's easy." For Coturri, good vineyard management is about creating uniformity out of chaos — making sure every plant gets exactly the water it needs, when it needs it. With WiseConn's automated dual drip irrigation system, that precision comes built in. Real-time alerts for frost and heat stress let him protect vines before damage sets in, while remote control over irrigation schedules across multiple blocks means fewer hours in the field and more time spent on decisions that matter. The result is a vineyard run on data instead of guesswork: soil moisture, climate conditions, and water use a

Why Great Brand Storytelling Is the Most Underrated Sales Skill in the Tasting Room
Walk into almost any tasting room and you’ll hear a familiar introduction: “This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It spent 18 months in French oak. The fruit comes from three estate vineyards, harvested by hand…” None of those things are wrong. They’re also not why most people buy wine. People don’t fall in love with barrel programs. They don’t become loyal because of a blend percentage. They don’t tell their friends about the clone selection or the fermentation protocol. They remember the story. At WISE, we often say, “Brand first. Wine second.” Not because the wine isn’t important. It absolutely is, but exceptional wine is no longer enough to stand out. There is another beautiful Cabernet down the road… Another thoughtfully crafted Chardonnay across the valley…Another talented winemaker making excellent wine. Your competitive advantage isn’t simply what’s in the bottle. It’s the story that gives the bottle meaning. People Remember M

Soil Moisture Data and Vine Water Status: What Sensors Show, and What They Don't
Most vineyard irrigation decisions in California are made against a stress target. The target might come from a stem water potential program, a canopy assessment, or years of experience with a particular block and a particular wine. Whatever sets it, the question in July is the same. Is the vine where I want it, and did the last set move it. Soil moisture sensors answer part of that question well. They also get asked to answer a part they cannot. What the soil profile shows A soil moisture sensor measures water in the soil immediately around it. Read as a continuous trace rather than a single number, it shows a few things clearly. Drawdown rate. The slope between irrigation events reflects how quickly water is leaving the profile at that depth. A slope that steepens through June and July is showing the combined effect of vine uptake and rising evaporative demand. A slope that flattens is showing the opposite, and often earlier than a walk through the block would. Wetting depth. After a

Ready for Summer? Here’s How to Boost Tasting Room Revenue Through Data
Spring is in the air! And summer’s about to come in hot. Wineries around the country are gearing up for a summer season in the Tasting Room, and I gotta tell ya. There’s a fair amount of anxiety. Will traffic be down? How about consumer spend? There’s also uncertainty. Are new staff trained up and ready? How will visitor trends vary this year from what we’re used to? Is it even possible to “win” in the Tasting Room this summer, with so many variables up in the air? It is indeed possible, and we have a lineup of your peers and colleagues who not only know how to win, even in this time of uncertainty, but are ready to share their strategies with you. They’re doing it smartly, with innovative strategies. And they’re doing it through data. You can too. They will show you. Please join us this Friday at 11 am PST for a deep dive into data-driven strategies to boost Tasting Room revenue through data. Registration link is here. Starting Irrigation Season with Soil Moisture in Mind
Across California vineyards, soil health is becoming more measurable, shifting the focus from practice alone to understanding how soils actually function and how that impacts water management in the field. Rather than relying only on inputs like cover crops or compost, growers are starting to look more closely at how their soils hold, move, and supply water to the vine throughout the season. Soil health is not a single metric, but a combination of physical, chemical, and biological factors that work together. Indicators like soil organic carbon, mineralizable carbon, and aggregate stability are becoming more widely used because they help explain how well a soil can retain moisture, support microbial activity, and maintain structure under irrigation. These characteristics directly influence how water is stored in the root zone and how consistently it is available to the vine. That variability becomes especially important during irrigation season. Two blocks receiving the same

WISE Rising Star & Texas Hill Country Scholarship Recipients Announced.
We proudly announced the recipients of the inaugural WISE Rising Stars Scholarships during a live presentation at the DTC Wine Symposium last week, celebrating the next generation of DTC wine industry leaders in front of more than 500 winery professionals. As one of the event’s original sponsors, WISE continues to invest in the Symposium’s mission of education, collaboration, and forward‑thinking leadership. The Rising Stars Scholarships extend that commitment—supporting people, developing leadership, and strengthening the DTC community across the industry. The Rising Stars Scholarships received an overwhelming response from across the country. The strength of applications prompted Commerce7 to step in and match one of the scholarships, allowing WISE to expand the program and support additional recipients. Join us as we raise a glass towards this year's recipients! Kelsey Gomes is the DTC Marketing Manager at Lange Twins Family Winery & Vineyards. Upon re

Reading Your Vineyard’s Signals with Automation
Vineyards communicate long before the fruit shows any stress. Subtle shifts in canopy color, changes in shoot vigor, and even small variations in soil texture can reveal how each block is responding to the season. For growers, the challenge is catching those signals early enough to act with confidence. That’s where strong water monitoring makes a difference. With tools that track soil moisture, water flow, pump activity, and irrigation timing across the ranch, growers can see where vines are holding steady and where attention is needed. Instead of guessing based on visual cues alone, they can match irrigation to the real conditions happening beneath the surface. This approach supports more than efficiency. It protects vine health during heat events, helps stabilize fruit quality, and builds a clearer understanding of each block’s behavior over time. Every vineyard has its own pattern and rhythm. When growers can follow those patterns consistently, they gain a new level of

Meta Ads, Miracle Results: Targeting Holiday Gifting Intenders Without Wasting Budget
Meta Ads, Miracle Results If your holiday Meta ads felt like lighting money on fire in a festive candle, that’s not because social is dead. It’s because your targeting and flighting were built for wishful thinking, not gifting intent. The fix isn’t magic. It’s method. You can absolutely turn Meta into a gift-selling machine between Thanksgiving and New Year—if you understand what actually drives intent and how to spend wisely when every other brand on earth is screaming for attention. What follows is a ruthless, winery-specific playbook for the six-week window between Thanksgiving and New Year that prioritizes intent, protects margin, and leans on real benchmarks instead of folklore. First, reality: volume is there, but it clusters Holiday ecommerce keeps breaking records, with online spend hitting roughly $241.4B from Nov 1 to Dec 31 and mobile responsible for the majority of transactions.
