Ciatti California Report - October 2026
Is a cautious transition underway? The 2026 harvest is in its closing stages – up to six weeks early in some places – and this month’s Ciatti California Report sets out timing, yield and the grape market’s response by region and variety. Despite potentially the smallest crush in 30 years, one which follows on from sub-3.0-million-ton harvests in 2024 and 2025, the industry remains oversupplied relative to need, and buyers of grapes and bulk wine have been continuing to act very conservatively, with lack of cashflow and credit squeezing their room for maneuver. Late payment is rife, increasing the general credit crunch. There have been numerous recent reports of asset sales and foreclosures as operators struggle for solvency, and it seems inevitable that any turnaround in industry fortunes will come too late for some. Amid the industry gloom, we have recently detected a number of tentative, positive market developments, and these – five in total – are set out in this month’s report. Is

Napa Valley Distillery has since reopened and brings the Distiller’s Blend product line to market with a sharper focus on price, presentation and scale. The products available in the collection are de

The Holiday Sale Doesn’t End at Checkout
A winery can send a beautiful holiday email, feature the right bottle, and get a customer all the way to checkout. Then the customer notices the gift message field is missing. Or they can’t tell whether the order will arrive in time. Or the wine they wanted was already committed to the next club shipment. These sound like small operational details. To the customer, they are the holiday shopping experience. As wineries plan for OND 2026, I’d spend less time asking, “What campaigns should we run?” and more time asking, “Can we deliver on every promise those campaigns make?” That question connects marketing to inventory, the tasting room, the wine club, and fulfillment. Here’s how to put it to work. Choose offers your whole team can stand behind Start with last year’s holiday orders. Look at what sold, what customers added to club shipments, and which gifts required the most back-and-forth from staff. Then check those opportunities against the inventory you’ll actually have available. A w

Planning Your Winery Holiday Sales Strategy: Beyond the Tasting Room
The peak winery holiday sales season, OND, is nearly upon us. OND, which stands for October, November, and December, is the three months responsible for roughly 30 percent of a winery's annual sales and the highest DTC sales of the year. Are you ready? Right now, during harvest, tasting rooms are full. That traffic drops in November and December as the weather turns and calendars fill with holiday plans. Wineries that win next quarter build a winery holiday sales strategy while harvest is still happening, not after the rush ends. This post lays out five pillars: social media, email marketing, wine club and allocations, gift-giving, and personal holiday buying to maximize your end of year sales. A free, downloadable OND Sales Prep Checklist walks through each pillar below in a one-page, build-it-yourself format, and a companion working sheet helps you map out your own posts and emails. Both live with the rest of my free resources on the Planning Tools page. Grab them before you keep rea

How to Make the Most of Your Fall Club Shipment
What To Do Next: Actionable Takeaways from Our Fall Club Webinar In last week’s Enolytics webinar, three industry DTC pros dropped best tips on making the most of your Fall wine club shipment. Here’s a summary—short and sweet!—with thanks to April Enos from Joseph Phelps, Nadia Kinkade from PEJU, and Ed Thralls from Dutton-Goldfield. Audit data quality before club processing. Identify missing phone, email, address, or name data, and clean records up front rather than discovering gaps mid-processing. Thank you, April! Check default shipment acceptance rates by club tier. Do this at budget time and again right before the Fall shipment. If acceptance is slipping, revisit whether the wine offerings still match what each tier’s customers actually want. Thank you, Nadia! Adopt a structured retention workflow, not ad hoc outreach. Predict → Prepare → Reach Out → Take Action → Record Disposition → Follow Up → Learn → Predict Again, with special attention to new members in their first 90 days

The Ultimate Guide to Holiday Winery Marketing: Unlock Big Wins With This 90-Day Q3 Sprint
It's July 1, which means you're about to start seeing "Christmas in July" everywhere. Retailers are already thinking about the holidays—even if it still feels like the middle of summer. Smart wineries should be doing the same. October, November, and December (OND) are your biggest sales months of the year. Holiday winery marketing doesn’t start in October—it starts now. They’re sprinting through Q3—right now—while everyone else is still daydreaming about hot cocoa and watching Christmas movies… you’ve got rosé in your glass and wine bundles to plan.
