Chateau Montelena’s 1973 Chardonnay that won the Judgment of Paris was aged in 1-year-old Limousin French oak barrels. Limousin oak was significant in California winemaking through the mid-1980s. Drawing on his early winemaking experience, Wine IQ owner Daniel Moore in collaboration with Tonnellerie Vinea has created dual barrel offerings built around Limousin oak under the badge “IQ Barriques”. Our signature barrel is 100 percent Limousin oak, ceramically toasted, resulting in fruit-forward wines with a rich sucrosity. For a more traditional approach, our other barrel offers a medium (ember) toast on the Limousin oak staves with a ceramic toast on Never oak heads. Both offerings are perfect for today’s evolving wine styles. See us at Unified booth A2602. For more information contact Wine IQ Consulting at results@wineIQconsulting.com 707-249-7335.
